How I’m Celebrating My Whole30 Journey

by Angie Anew on January 27, 2012

On Wednesday I asked people to vote on how I should celebrate completing the Whole30. (Three more days!) Now for the shocker:

That wasn’t a scientific poll! AND it was non-binding. I can do whatever the heck I want! Whatever I WANT! Bwahahaha!

Actually, the option I wanted got the most votes anyway. Naturally, I want to do all of it! I already talked my parents into to my parents about watching the kids so hubby and I can have our first night away since our little guy was born more than a year ago. Now I just have to:

  • Find a lovely (in-town) place to stay.
  • Make reservations at a fabulous restaurant.
  • Find something fun to do.
  • Buy an outfit (in a smaller size) for the occasion.

The makeover and cupcake might also happen before our night out, but we’ll see. This is already a lot of activity for me. I need to ease into it!

If you have recommendations for places to stay, eat or shop (Minneapolis and St. Paul), I’d love to hear them! (Restaurants with gluten-free options please!)

There was some sort of Groupon deal today for the Nicollet Island Inn!

Oh darn. Missed it! The Groupon emails were getting overwhelming to me, so I dialed way back on my subscriptions at the beginning of the year.

The Bachelor’s Farmer in MNPLs has excellent food.

One of my friends recommended Marvel Bar as a fun place to hang out. I discovered it’s attached to Bachelor Farmer. We might have to check it out.

No luck. Bachelor Farmer only has late LATE reservations for next weekend. We’ll have to try it another time. We might check out Marvel Bar, though.

Now, I don’t live in MSP but I travel through there often (flight attendant)…we usually stay at a hotel close to the Mall of America and I LOVE Twin City Grill that is in the mall…I hear that locals really don’t go to the MOA so this may not be appealing to you but the restaurant is worth the trip (IMO, anyway!).
They may even have other locations…their gluten-free menu is lovely and they are always accommodating to my requests.

Thanks for the recommendation! I think we’ll likely be downtown. Great to know Twin City Grill has a gluten-free menu, though!

Congratulations on completing your challenge, Angie, you inspire me!

My husband and I occasionally stay downtown to celebrate our birthdays – we’ve stayed at W Foshay, Graves, Westin and Nicollet Island Inn and my favorite is the W Foshay. Rooms are ultra-contemporary, staying at the hotel gives you free admission to the museum and observation deck at the top of the Foshay and there are two swanky bars on-site to grab a cocktail – Prohibition and Living Room. They’re quite a scene on the weekends, fun people watching. Other downtown ideas, though not sure about GF at these places: 112 Eatery is very good; Barrio has a cool vibe & less expensive food; Happy Hour at Vincent is a steal; and it’s fun to catch a live jazz show at the Dakota.

GREAT suggestions! Thank you. We might check out Barrio for dinner. I’m in the mood for a fun, casual people-watching kind of place. Those bar recommendations sound great, too. The W might be our pick!

Have you ever gone to Mill Valley Kitchen? They have gluten free items, and list the nutrition info on their menu, which is awesome. Great atmosphere and fun place to go. May not work if you want to stay in downtown, but maybe another time!

This weekend, we’re staying downtown, but I will keep Mill Valley Kitchen in mind for another time. I’m always looking for great restaurants to try! Awesome that they list the nutrition information!
